The following is a brief review of Lookout Mobile Security For Android. As an Android users, we
do not know exactly what processes are running in the background.
With a large number of users in the world, Android becomes an easy
target for bad applications. Whether malicious activity such as
sending personal data to computer hackers can be prevented using
antivirus? The answer is more complex than we can imagine.
All the applications that we install or Android native applications, are running and protected individually in an area called sandboxes. The
problem is that any antivirus we install also run in sandboxes. So an
antivirus application must have a strong control because its can browse
system information of your Android smartphone. Given access to an
antivirus application on the smartphone that has strong control, it
is essential for you to download an antivirus application from an
official source that can be trusted as Google Play or the formerly
called Android Market.
Although still controversial the effectiveness of its use, also with
the use of batteries required for continuous scanning of Android
system, the use of antivirus is still advisable to maintain security.
And antivirus applications often equipped with additional functions
such as the ability to find a stolen phone.
For those of you who do 'rooting' Android devices please be careful.
The process of 'rooting' an Android device explores the basic system
of the Linux operating system, and can allow a basic level of control
of the whole system. So it is highly recommended to install an
antivirus application on your device.
Lookout Mobile Security
As an Android user, I have tried several antivirus applications, one
of my favorites is Lookout Mobile Security for Android that we can
install it for free. Lookout is broken down into five components:
Security, Backup, Missing Device, Save Browsing and Privacy Advisor.
The last two components can only be used if you are upgrading to
Premium. Here are an explanation of each section:
1. Security.
Lookout will automatically scan Android devices in real-time to
provide protection against the latest threats. Automatic scanning can
be set daily or on a weekly basis.
2. Backup.
We can back up contacts data to Lookout website and can restore it
anytime. There is a selection of photos backup and history backup of
phone calls, but we have to upgrade the free version to the premium
lookout.
3. Missing Device.
Missing Device has six functions:
a. Scream to search for our device to sound an alarm - although we
set the device silent.
b. Locate. Sign in to Lookout.com to search for our lost device via
the map.
c. Signal Flare. Automatically record the location of your device
before running out of battery power.
d. Lock Cam. Took the photo of someone whoever three times
incorrectly enter your PIN, password or pattern on the Android lock
screen of your device. Lookout will send an email with the photo and
the location of your device.
e. Lock (Premium). Keeping your personal information by locking your
device remotely. Write a message missing device or make your own to
help people who find it to returns your missing phones to you.
f. Wipe (Premium). Remove your message text, photo, phone books and
other data from a lost phone.
4. Safe Browsing (Premium).
Safe Browsing function protects you from phishing and other malicious
websites by scanning the URLs you visit in real-time.
5. Privacy Advisor (Premium).
Privacy Advisor protects your privacy by seeing all the applications
that access the personal information on your phone device.
An antivirus application that works all the time will likely waste
your battery, but Lookout claimed that its only consumes energy for
one day is equivalent to the energy used for 33 seconds phone call.
Lookout has a job to protect you in real-time which is very effective
and efficient and also very useful if you lose your phones. Security
is always a part that must be considered in Android, which Google
Play criticized for not providing sufficient protection to the user
with a number of bad applications that allowed in Google Play. And
this happens not only on Android alone, but the whole of smartphones
such as the iPhone, Blackberry and Windows Phone are always filled
with personal data and payment information, making it a target for
thieves. So in conclusion, if we can install an antivirus application
for free then why not try it?
